Giving Something Back is really important to us at Adatis, and we like to think we’re pretty good at it. From saying thank you to each other at the end of the day, to presenting at local user groups, to blogging, to helping run one of the biggest SQL conferences in the world, to raising money for charities close to our hearts, we’re always looking for the best ‘Adatis’ way to Give Something Back.
Giving Something Back – Externally
We love to give back to the data community. We sponsor and speak at a number of events such as Data Scotland, Data Relay and SQLBits. It’s always exciting to meet new people, share our knowledge through talks and gain knowledge to bring back to Adatis to share internally. We also sponsor Surrey Data Platform (formerly SQL Surrey), a local user group for knowledge sharing on exciting tech run by a few of the Adatis team. When not attending events or user groups, our people are always sharing their knowledge, both internally and externally, through blogs, half hour huddles and lunch and learns.
We are also passionate about Girls in Tech and have run workshops with local schools to encourage girls to get into STEM subjects. In March, we announced we would be holding women’s data science bootcamps, in partnership with Microsoft, at our Farnham and London offices this Autumn. These bootcamps give women returning to the workplace or women looking for a new career in tech, the opportunity to gain a new qualification and help them take the next step on their career journey
We don’t just give back to the tech community, we also like to help a bit closer to home and give back to our local community, for example sponsoring the local Haselmere under 16 football club and volunteering at local charities. We have been volunteering at Bells Piece in Farnham for the last four years. Bells Piece is a local home for adults with learning disabilities, offering personalised support with a focus on independence, health, wellbeing and skills building. Every year, since December 2016, we’ve helped run their annual Christmas lunch party with Adati, decorating the room& tables, preparing food and drinks for everyone and showing off our moves at the disco. One of our team even dressed up as Santa in 2019! We also help with their Summer party by manning the BBQ’s, playing fun outdoor games and tidying up afterwards to give the staff a well-earned rest!
Charity events are a huge part of Adatis culture and last year we held an Adatis World Cup, managing to raise £155 for Alzheimer’s society. Adatis is also full of keen cyclists, and every other year, we organise a charity bike ride. In 2018, 18, Adati cycled from Lyon to Marseille and raised over £15,000 for a number of charities.
Giving Something Back – Internally
Giving back internally is just as important. We have fantastic company away days, birthday days off, peer to peer micro-bonuses, internal/external training sessions, peer to peer and 360 degree feedback at bi- annual apprasials and knowledge sharing via Lunch & Learns and Half Hour Huddles. We fully stocked fridges in all of our offices, offering healthy (and some not so healthy) snacks and drinks, as well as a beer fridge for our Friday afternoon happy hours! We believe a happy team is a productive team and these are just some ways we like to give back to our employees for their hard work.
Our team know that they’ll get back what they put in – “be the change you seek” as Sir Ben Kingsley once said.
